Short answer
Contact the California Department of Insurance by phone at 1-800-927-4357 or online through its consumer help page, where you can ask a question or submit a request for assistance. California non-renewal and cancellation notices must tell you that you can have the matter reviewed by the Department.

When it makes sense to contact CDI
- The notice seems to have arrived with less than the required notice.
- No specific reason was given, or the insurer didn't answer your request for the reasons.
- Your ZIP code is under a wildfire moratorium and the insurer didn't rescind a wildfire-based notice.
- Your wildfire risk score appeal was denied and you believe the score is wrong.

The Department reviews whether insurers follow the law; it generally does not act as your attorney, and contacting it does not by itself extend your coverage. Keep arranging replacement coverage.
